Ron Glass, a productive TV performing artist known for playing Ron Harris in the sitcom "Barney Miller" and Shepherd Derrial Book in "Firefly," has passed on. He was 71. 

The performing artist's rep affirmed the demise to Variety, however had no further insights with respect to the cause or area. 

Glass was conceived in Evansville, Ind. what's more, went ahead to study dramatization and writing at the University of Evansville. He started his profession in Hollywood in scenes of "Sanford and Son," "Hawaii Five-O" and "All in the Family" in the mid '70s.

In 1975 Glass discovered his breakout part in "Barney Miller," set in a NYPD station. His character was a smart and eager scholarly, fixated on propelling his vocation as an author. The part earned Glass a Primetime Emmy designation in 1982 in the supporting on-screen character class. 

After "Barney Miller," Glass would go ahead to star in 18 scenes of the 1982 "The Odd Couple" redo "The New Odd Couple" and in addition showing up on "The Twilight Zone," "Family Matters" and "Murder, She Wrote," among different shows. In the late 1999 he showed up on two scenes of "Companions" Ross Geller's separation legal counselor, Russell.
